
The Vegas Tour
2008

The Butch Harmon School of Golf

Campbell College Northern Ireland and Gordonstoun from Scotland took part in the inaugural Vegas tour organised by the ISGA in association with The Butch Harmon School of Golf in Las Vegas from 13 December to 21 December

Teams arrived direct from the UK on Virgin and checked into the new Red Rock Hotel a luxury 5 star hotel located on the outskirts of Las Vegas in the prestigious area of Summerlin

Paiute Golf Club
The first days golf was at Paiute golf club a 40 minute drive into the desert surrounded by mountains.
A wonderful sunny day in the desert we were joined by local teacher Scott Kristensen from Meadows school


In the evening some of the students tried their hand at the onsite Bowling lanes at Red Rock

Angel Park Golf Club
The second days golf was held at Angel Park.
The skies were very grey as we woke on the 15th. Snow began to fall as we made our way to Angel Park to play the par 3 course. The course is made up of famous holes from around the world including the Sawgrass 17th.
The club allowed us to play even though the snow was now becoming heavier. Orange balls were purchased for the event and we set off to play

As the last group were teeing off they were approached by the local press and interviewed....
for local tv....who were these mad people playing golf in the snow...must be Europeans!!
A morning of fun in the snow was had by all
A trip to the strip and shopping in the Caesars Palace Forum shops

The Butch Harmon School of Golf
All students attended the Butch Harmon School of Golf in Henderson for a full day of tuition from the 5 staff professionals.
Each student was given a Butch Harmon travel bag, shirt, hat, engraved bag tag and signed book from Butch

Teaching started with one to one swing analysis


Some students practised their changes




Other students split into groups to cover short game with Don, putting with Greg and bunker with Sean and Matt
assisted with Geoff


A very memorable day for all the students ... being able to be taught by the worlds best on the same tees as some of the all time great players of today.


They even got to see Gordonstouns teacher David have his swing analysed

Rio Secco
Rio Secco Golf Course is adjacent to the Butch Harmon School of Golf

A cold start to the day saw the teams tee off


Snow began to fall as the groups reached the ninth hole. Course marshals decided to close the course.
Snow fell on Las Vegas the heaviest in 70 years

All returned to Red Rock hotel.
The whole group were treated to one of the best steaks in Las Vegas at T bones steak house

Due to snow still on the ground all around Las Vegas the following days golf was cancelled.
A trip to the Las Vegas Strip was organised visiting the Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay
On the way to New York New York a stop at a Crispy Crème outlet

A ride on the New York Rollercoaster




A stop at Wynn's Hotel for arguably the best buffet in Vegas then shopping at the Fashion Mall.

All walked back along the strip past the Mirage, Ceasars and watched the fountains at Bellagio



Exhausted after the long walk we made a final stop at the Las Vegas welcome sign

Boulder Creek
the last days golf was held at Boulder Creek near Boulder just a short drive from Hoover Dam and Lake Mead
A rematch of yesterdays team event Shapes v Lads!!

Susie - Best Gross TPC and Boulder Creek
Besty - Best nett at TPC
Buster - Best gross at Rio Secco
Chris - Best 2 birdies at TPC
Paddy - best birdie in the snow chipping in on Sawgrass 17th
Astrid - most improved over the tour
James - nearest the pin at TPC and most birdies in one round
Westy - most pars in one round TPC Canyons
David - Best sport for having his swing analysed in front of all at Butch Harmon
Karen - Best tee shot under pressure in the snow at Angel Park
a DVD was produced for the tour players.
