The Shire Trophy
July 2
nd 2007Over 45 Schools took part in the first ISGA Shire Trophy held at
the magnificent new Seve Ballesteros designed The Shire London
on the 2
nd JulyPupils were greeted with juice and crispy crème pastries in the
newly opened clubhouse.
The weather was not looking very promising with a light wind and
rain forecast.
The competition was a 2 tee start. 16-19 year olds off the first tee
an intimidating par 3 island hole. At least 12 balls in the first 10
groups found the water.
The girls and under 15s started on the 10
th tee a par 4 with wateron both sides of the green.
We expected some high scores as some of the players struggled
with the water and rough. All enjoyed the wonderful layout of the
course with 6 par 5’s 6 par 4’s and 6 par 3’s. 14 of the holes have
water in play. The course has a mix of parkland, links and
American style holes.

th NorwichAfter the players finished their golf they had meals in the Society
room overlooking the tricky 18 green. Plenty of discussion on how
many balls were lost in the various water hazards around the
course and how many putts just missed on the undulating USGA
greens
Seve Ballesteros has certainly focused the minds of the young
golfers who wish to return to take on the Seve challenge and
compete for The Shire Trophy next year

The Shire London, near Barnet, is a magnificent, undulating 7,200-
yard championship golf course bearing all the hallmarks of the
iconic Spaniard at his swashbuckling, cavalier best.
With water featuring on twelve holes – including the first four - the
course is a visually stunning challenge to golfers of all abilities. It is
designed for maximum enjoyment, with equal numbers of par 3s,
4s and 5s. No two consecutive holes are the same par.

The winners of the competitions were awarded their Trophies and
prizes by David Quin Chairman of ISGA and Tony Menai Davis
owner of The Shire London
The ISGA would like to thank all the sponsors who generously
donated prizes
